5 Powerful Advantages of Robotic Welding

There are several advantages of robotic welding. We believe a quality product is only possible when you invest in cutting-edge technology. It’s only then that we can deliver the product you deserve by adhering to the highest standards. Robotic welding is a critical part of that principle.

In this article, we’ll explore five powerful advantages of robotic welding.

Whether you need a custom prototype or a larger-scale production run, McIntyre has the skilled team to make it happen. We combine precision automation with experienced craftsmanship so you will never have to worry about your project’s progress. Request a quote, and let’s talk about what’s possible.

What Are the Advantages of Robotic Welding?

There are several advantages that robotic welding offers. We’ll take a closer look at five of them.

1. Precision Consistency

Because every weld is exactly following the same program, you’ll never have to be concerned about consistent quality. The first piece off the line is just as strong and precise as the 100th. This is extremely difficult to capture with manual welding, particularly if you’re fulfilling a large order.

2. Quick Turnaround

Speed is on your side. Because you don’t have to sacrifice speed for precision, you can easily move from design to production much faster. This has a domino effect that means you can count on your project being completed on time and with the kind of quality you need.

3. Reduced Waste

Even the most skilled welders can make the occasional error. That means rework, and over time, that leads to scrapped material. Not only does the improved efficiency of robotic welding mean that your projects remain on schedule, but it also means fewer mistakes, which in turn, reduces the need for scrapped metal.

4. Improved Safety

Welders must take a wide variety of safety precautions. After all, they consistently work with sparks and fumes as part of their daily work. Automating repetitive welds reduces the amount of time employees spend exposed to these hazards. As a result, our team can focus more intensely on the inspection and craftsmanship that have earned us several dedicated and loyal customers throughout the decades.

5. Simple Scalability

Do you need one prototype? What about thousands of units? No matter how many you need, robotic welding can scale to meet your demands while also maintaining the highest standards.  No quantity is too large or too small.

Now that we’ve covered the advantages, here’s a closer look at how the process actually works.

What Is Robotic Welding?

Robotic welding is an automated process in which sophisticated, programmable machinery is used to perform welds that are traditionally done by hand. It implements a robotic arm that is guided by detailed instructions. It creates a precise path with a robotic arm equipped with a welding torch.

This enables us to not only join repetitive welds with precise accuracy, but also helps ensure that each weld is identical.

We’d like to emphasize that these robotic machines are not about replacing skilled employees. We are very proud of our team at McIntyre. They are among the most skilled and dedicated in the Southeast, and they are a vital part of our process and major contributors to our success.

Robotic welding is about giving our workers an additional tool that frees them from highly repetitive work. That means their expertise can be focused where it matters most: design, quality control, and problem-solving.

How Does Robotic Welding Work?

It all begins with a program. Through this software, our engineers and technicians are able to designate the exact path, angle, speed, and technique the robot needs to follow for a given weld.

Often, this involves utilizing CAD data. Once this is completed, the robotic welding arm springs into action and completes the production run.

These robotic machines don’t go “off track” because of sensors and sophisticated feedback systems. This helps ensure that the first weld and the last weld show unmatched consistency.

What Welding Methods Can Robotic Welding Perform?

Welding with a robotic arm is also versatile, and there are several different techniques they can utilize. A few of them include:

Arc welding

• Resistance welding
• Spot welding
• TIG welding
• MIG welding
• Laser welding
• Plasma welding
